Practical Social Media Advice For Small Business
Hosted by our FREE social media training CLUB
Wed @ 8pm GMT // 3pm ET // Thurs 7am AEDT

Hosted by Elliot Browne

Whilst the panel give up their time free of charge, trust me – it doesn’t mean it’s been free for all of us!! We’ve paid along the way, and now we’re now paying forward. We’ve got experience, we’ve made mistakes, and we’ve made errors. But it’s all of those things, that have taught us what we know today!

That’s why we’re here – to help you, to give value & assist you as much as we can.

Everyone can come to stage and ask their questions, and all you need to do is raise your hand. [ Bottom right of the app ]

Clubhouse Hands

It’s great etiquette to follow the speakers and moderators.

If you do, you have got the best chance of linking, connecting, following and being in the same group so the moderators and the speakers that are here up the stage now.

But don’t forget the people around you too! There could be someone next to you, who could help you take the next step up the ladder. And help you in Clubhouse, but also in life, and in business as well.

CLUB HOST & PANEL

Tristan Griffiths : ItsNomad9 // ImTristanG

I’ve brought together this panel for you this evening to give you the opportunity to ask those questions that have been niggling. Those problems that you might have.

For those who don’t know me, you can find me as
@ImTristanG across all the socials

I head up a digital marketing agency that’s focused around content creation and organic growth.

We literally take the ideas out of your head, and cohesively communicate them across all the different social platforms.

Everybody’s got 24 hours in a day, and I’m a strong believer that, with the right systems and processes in place, you can show up in more places than you think you might be able to.

We can show you exactly how to do that, so I’m going to focus today around organic growth, content creation and the strategy that sits behind that!

THE Q&A SESSION

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR TOP TIP ON SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM YOUR GOING TO DOUBLE DOWN AND USE THIS YEAR?

@ElliotBrowne

Focus on the time you spend on Clubhouse, look at making the most of it, and use it consciously
@ImTristanG

If you use IGTV
Add a clickable link as it’s clickable!
Rebecca

WHEN I GO TO DO REELS, THE SONGS ARE COPYWRITED SO WHEN YOU CHOOSE THOSE SONGS THEY COME UP AS UNAVAILABLE (VIEWS DOWN FROM 100S TO 7), HOW DO YOU GET AROUND THAT?

Jessica
@JessicaDepew

Did it show views were actually down?
Rebecca

Heard that when lots of people use a song, it could be that Instagram may put a temporarily block on specific songs because too many people using – so may have a cap for a while?
@RosieDavies

WHAT IS TOP OF INSTA ALGORYTHM?

Jessica
@JessicaDepew

Reels & any kind of video.
Can even change still post to look like video using GIFs etc.
Sue

Check insights _ What resonates with your audience
Rebecca

What resonates with your audience?
Focus on the insights and the content types that is working!
Ella

Post with rhythm each week
To trigger algorithms

  • Feed posts 3-5 per week
  • Stories 5-7 per day
  • IGTV 3 minutes during the week
  • Reels 3 – 4 times per week

Elliot

When it comes to music…
Remember each platform has different copyright license agreements in different territories, so you don’t own the rights to repurpose without licensing
@ImTristanG

SEEN LOTS OF FOLLOW/UNFOLLOW ON INSTA;
HAVE YOU SEEN THIS HAPPEN ON CLUBHOUSE?

Rosie
@RosieDavies

No, increased only and on insta too, not a numbers game and a more genuine following
Samantha

No, have lots followers on Clubhouse and don’t think I would if they are unfollowing, but on instagram it looks like most people are not unfollowing either
Worth noting that Clubhouse banned Follow for Follow Rooms!
Rebecca

Not for me – seen a steady rise
Elliot

Platform is focussed on safety and security, so making reporting easier for those bad uses of th eplatform
@ImTristanG

REELS VS TIKTOK
I HAVEN’T DONE ANYTHING ON REELS, MUCH PREFER AUDIO PLATFORM

WOULD YOU GO TIKTOK THEN POST TO REELS
OR STRAIGHT TO REELS?

ALSO BECAUSE IN SEX & SEXUALITY TOPICS LOTS OF SIMILAR ACCOUNTS HAVE BEEN SHUT DOWN

Meg
@Relationshipsxx

Always try to pull them over to an email list in case the account does get shut down.

Love watching TikTok, but not creating there.
I take my time creating in Instagram, because thats where my following is & not going to build my audience there.
Rebecca

Got vids on TikTok and wanted to put them onto instagram because  encouraged to & Rebecca highlighted how to fix, and has a process to hide watermark, by sticking it to the bottom and then putting a sticker on top of it – Happy to share the method via Insta DM
Jennifer

Try to use tools IN PLATFORM as they highlight content created on the platform itself rather than moving across.
Think again about the copyright issues when repurposing – and potential issues.
In terms of censorship, you could try to avoid potential key words and try to explain it differently.
Also agree on moving people away from social to own owned content
Social media is very rich, fertile land, but it is still borrowed land.
@ImTristanG

WHAT’S THE BEST CONVERTING OPTION TO MOVE PEOPLE OVER FROM SOCIAL?

Meg
@Relationshipsxx

I use LinkTree – as it’s very trusted by people on here & easy to implement redirect to other resources they may be interested in.
Elliot

A lot of people don’t realise you can do the same as LinkTree on your own site & that re-enforces your brand and gets you more hits to your website too. It’s just a page of buttons – WordPress makes this super simple!
@ImTristanG

Canva has an option but doesn’t mark stats for you so suggest Tris’ method, but currently using LinkTree but going to move to own site now
Jennifer

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD UP STEAM ON INSTAGRAM – GET A LOT OF GOOD FEEDBACK BUT NOT GROWING AS FAST AS I HOPED? ANY ADVICE

Estelle
@EstelleKeeber

In your industry people connect to you, and make the bio more user friendly – so I know a but more about what to expect by following you.
Include a Call To Action [CTA]
Share behind the scenes and use highlights to add for people to review as albums to get an idea of what you offer
Rebecca

Use longer captions to engage people more, share your story & setup a CTA to get more engagement from those you already have following. Instagram will then push out to more people
Sue

Everything is a LONG GAME on social media>
Don’t compare yourself to others, as you don’t know where they are in their journey. No such thing as overnight success.
Consistency is key
It’s a long game & you create digital assets along the way that serve the business far beyond the time they take to create
@ImTristanG

READ AN article that the transfer of content is taking down the quality, is that true? And will it give lower views? OR DO YOU NEED TO CREATE SEPERATE CONTENT ON SEP PLATFORMS

Estelle
@EstelleKeeber

Ideally yes, however if your doing just to test and try, insta was okay but now would rather not, if its just to test then share across but going forward try create separately
Rebecca

I do it because I don’t have original footage but check your own insights
Jennifer

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF HASHTAGS ON FACEBOOK SHOULD YOU USE THEM ON YOUR POSTS LIKE THEY DO ON INSTA?

Estelle
@EstelleKeeber

Yes 100%
Facebook as BIG company will have researched and added the tools because they can see how it would work.
We have tools to do research, we are defo using but worth looking into for yourself
@ImTristanG

CREATING REELS, I CANNOT FIND THE COOL MUSIC OTHER PEOPLE HAVE, IS THERE A TRICK TO FINDING THE REALLY GOOD MUSIC PEOPLE USE?

HAVING HARD TIME WITH HOW TO CREATE REELS IN AN INTERESTING WAY, CREATING ON CNAVA THEN PULLING ACROSS?

Kindra
@KindraHayes

There’s no commercial music on business accounts, but move to creator and it opens up. It will take a few days but be careful.
Sue

I have seen more people do what Sue said.
Rebecca

You need to be very careful!
Remember that It’s someone else’s livelihood!

Also if too many people do this switch accounts, it will stop working because Facebook will find out and crack down on that!

Yes it might work, but there’s a reason they removed it, and probably for very good legal reasons!

Remember that if you do anything online there could be a record, even it it’s only temporary and for legal reasons – So be careful!

Is it worth losing all the profile and audience you spend time building?
@ImTrstanG

Can you do it on a platform that allows the music?
Elliot

It’s very disappointing, I’ve actually had all these carnivals with music in that I have livestreamed muted or taken down.. They removed the audio!
Lyn AKA #GoLiveGranny

Watch your doing because they are putting black marks against your accounts, and the music companies will go over your head to the social platform, which is why we see these changes,
@ImTristanG

INSTAGRAM, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BUILD UP STEAM? IVE BEEN POSTING FOR MONTHS AND POSITIVE COMMENTS BUT NOT INCREASES IN FOLLOWING, LONG CREATED CONTENT LESS TRACTION THAN QUICK QUOTES

Elite
@EliteTarot

Especially in your industry people want to know you, and less about your business.

Make your bio a little more user friendly.
Include some bullet points in it, and remember a call to action!

With your stories, you could create more and Behind The Scenes content, and save them as highlights, include previous clients and more of you!
Rebecca

You have short captions, try using longer captions, and also include call to actions. Not trying to get more followers, but more interactions which will in turn push content out more! Feed your existing audience.
Sue

Remember everything on social is long game.
You don’t know where other people you may be comparing to are atm in their journey.
You need to look at the time and effort those big brands have put in before you noticed them.

  1. Its a long game
  2. You’re creating digital assets
    Which will serve you far beyond the time they take to create
    @ImTristanG

WHATS THE BEST HASHTAG MIX AND STRATEGY BEHIND THAT?

ANY TOOLS TO HELP DO THAT RESEARCH AND KEEP BALANCE BETWEEN SMLL MEDIUM LARGE HASHTAGS etc?

Haley
@TheWrittenWorld

All-Hashtag.com

Searches for keywords & sort results, but have to check them.
Then I save them on different topics I have.
I try to find as many words as possible to create a pool but don’t want to overuse them.
Jennifer

I use a tool called ‘hashtag expert’
Hashtag.Expert
Also research them in the platform – and check recents and number of likes to see if I can compete for them. Avoid bigger ones & niche down for your business.
Sue

Currently using ‘hish hash’ and organise them.
Haley

SOME HASHTAGS HAVE TOP POSTS FROM LAST YEAR, SHOULD I AVOID USING THOSE TAGS?

Haley
@TheWrittenWorld

I always look at recents, so I would still use big tags but make sure it’s actually relevant. As a small business use way lower, under 500,000 posts.
Sue

Check the hashtags on Instagram, use under 3m mark otherwise it will get lost!
Elliot

I look at under 100,000 posts.
There is a tool Chris shared where you can click down the layers to lower hashtags to dig a little deeper.
Samantha

All the platforms have the data inside them – Tools pull from them!
Go to profiles you like and see what they are using, and research on platform. don’t use huge tags, because otherwise in that minute theres hundreds thousands posts at same time, so smaller tags will be more niche and will stay in that feed for longer!
@ImTristanG

Start by describing whats in the picture & get more specific…
ie dog > browndog > brownlabradordog
Rebecca

ADVISE ON WHAT YOU’RE USING TO SCHEDULE POSTS?
IS THERE SOMEWHERE YOU CAN SCHEDULE STORIES?

Becky
@BeckyNight

Yes can schedule stories on Facebook Creator Studio
Gus & I are ambassadors for AgoraPulse & myslef and Rebecca are speaking on 24 Feb, at AgoraPulse Summit
Allows you to do all of this we were talking about, social listening posting, insights, and my fav, one social inbox, bulk upload etc, and I’m ambassador so you can grab a two month FREE TRIAL HERE
@ImTristanG

I use only post directly how does it work?
Rebecca

@tris

I only use native, but I think it actually posts but ill check it out and tweet it out

HOW TO GET TO 5,000 FOLLOWERS FROM NOTHING, WHAT STRATEGY SHOULD PEOPLE USE? HOW WOULD YOU SPEND A LIMITED BUGET 1000/YEAR?

Artur
@ArturOHershel

Investment is sometimes money, sometimes it’s time, and sometimes both.

If you are short on money, then spend the time.

Look to scale the unscalable;

  • Comment more
  • DM People
  • Spend time engaging
  • Create that content

If you have the time, use that, then spend your money.

You can also get user generated content quite easily, so you don’t have to spend the budget.

‘Spend’ on competitions & incentives.
Then you get input from everyone, but only reward one or two people
It’s also super targeted audience and engagement
@ImTristanG

Problem now is too much about product not enough about engagement
Artur

If you have a team, realise that people want to know the team. So bring them into the social, and spread the work and time it takes between them all.
Get people to engage more, rather than just creating content
@ImTristanG

The main problem is team are doing it and I can do it better
Artur

Then teach them!
Record videos to train them, and get them doing it, not you!
Then you have lots of time to use the content they create.
The team will give you so much more power and resources.
@ImTristanG

For anyone wanting to grow their audience, look at the team here.
All the mods all have what we have because we concentrate on our audience.
If you build the community, I would boost social content, or videos that you know people will like and retarget them to make it more effective.
Rebecca

WITH ALL THE PLATFORMS, WHAT SYSTEM IS EVERYONE USING TO CREATE ENGAGING CONTENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA? AND HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO HAVE A SYSTEM?

Adrian
@AdrianOHare

Planners systems etc
Tris has a system, and has mentioned AgoraPulse
It’s something I use, and will be talking to Tris about using better, but speak to Tristan, and try AgoraPulse
Elliot

Who is your audience?
Where are they?
What’s your goal?
Be clear on that
Samantha

Process for creating is a brand strategy, use buckets/pillars and pull quotes, and create your content from there. Set your categories for your business and create into those buckets.
Rebecca

Long form is the place to start!
So blog.
Knowing your audience’s pain points.
Start with a video or podcast and repurpose into social posts from there.
Ella

I am platform agnostic!

Sit down & think any question you’ve been asked over last few months.
That’s the content you should be creating.
This will save having to answer those questions again.

It’s not about not having conversations, but it will save time.

Answer questions you get asked first;
Then research your industry;
And answer things other people are asking using

Then look to tools like :
AnswerThePublic.com

We always start with video.
We take knowledge from clients heads, into video.
Then we create their blogs.
And pull the social content, graphics, make more presentable videos too!

This isn’t complicated.
Al you need is your phone, and 30 minutes.

All they’re doing is recording vids.

RECOMMENDED BBOK :
You ask they answer

Be prepared to answer the tough questions!!

If you follow our Content Creation System you can do it all!

Would love to show you this, and just reformatting the workshop, from a 6 hour workshop in person to 3 x 2 hour workshops & will also probably do a talk in here on it.
